June 22 Monday
Quebec City
Our friends Roy and Billie Helps invite us to accompany them into Quebec City. We stop at the visitors center first and get info on the Gaspe. We park in Old town (Vieux Quebec.) The streets are cobbled with quaint shops and restaurants on very narrow roads. Many bakeries and outdoor cafes. We pass Laval university next door to Notre Dam Basilica. Time for lunch. We decide on Cafe Buade on 31 rue de Buade. For $10.95 we get Canadian pea soup , a main item (I get a shrimp pizza). It also included desert and coffee. After lunch we take a bus tour. It takes us to the Citadel, parliament building, old port, city hall, and a short walk in Old town and much more . $74 for the two of us. While waiting for the bus we walk to the archeology site where the first fort was covered with sand. We go inside the Chateau Frontenac(1893) built in Medieval French style with numerous turrets and verdigris copper roofs. It has 600 rooms. We experience the European charm of the first French settlement . We visited history first hand . The tour was a perfect introduction to the city.
