Boldt Castle next, this is a full-sized Rhineland style castle on a 5 acre island. The Boldt family spent 4 glorious summers on the island during construction . There are 6 impressive structures- The Boldt castle, the power house, the Alster tower ( a playhouse) The Hennery, the Arch and a stone gazebo. The Boldt Yatch house was on Wellesly Island. 300 workers ,stonemasters, carpenters and artist fashioned the castle. In 1904 tragedy struck as Louise dies unexpectedly . All construction halted and George never returned to the castle again. The castle never to be furnished or occupied for more than 73 years. The estate remained eerly ,vaccant and detereated to a condition of almost complete disrepair. Wind, rain, ice, snow and vandals took their toll. In 1977 millions of dollars have been invested into the rehabilitation efforts on Heart Island by the Thousand Island bridge authority owner of historic properties. Determined to preserve the Boldt legacy for enjoyment of present and future generations Boldt castle is an eternal monument to the memory of a man's love for his wife. It was Boldt's head chief who concocted Thousand Island salad dressing.
