August 31 Monday 2009. It Annapolis Royal NS
Sunny by noon so another exploring day. We start with Fort Royal 1610-1613
a reconstructed small French compound . An early European settlement who made friends with Mi'kmaq Indians and survived until 1613 when it was destroyed in an attack by Captain Samuel Argall of Virginia. Next we drive to Victoria Beach as far as we can go. We pass some veg stands and I buy fresh beets ,cucumbers and potatoes. Anyone ready for borscht???? we also stop at the Melanson settlement not much there. I can't believe that August is over. Where is time going???? only good thing is that it's only 10 day to see our babies.
REMEMBER- throw out nonessential numbers, including age, weight, and height. Let the doctor worry about them. That is why we pay him/her.

August 30 Sunday 2009 Annapolis Royal
It has stopped raining but it sure hammered down during the night. Bill gets the satalite dish working with no problems. We decide to drive into town with a stop at the visitors center and the Annapolis tidal generating station first. We learn how electricity is produced by harnessing the tidal waters of the Bay of Fundy. The Bay of Fundy tides rise from 6-9 metres (20-30 ft). Our next stop is Fort Anne. Here over 3,000 years ago the Mi'kmaq used the site as a stopping place in their voyages and In the early 1600's and 1700's the site was an early European colonial and settlement in the area called Acadian by the French, Nova Scotia by the British. The French and the British in turn had their capitals here and built several forts interacting with the Indians and the Acadians. The 1702 earthworks are the earliest Canadian example of a Vauban-style fort. We tour the officers quarters which is now exhibits the areas complex history and walk the grounds of the fort. Lunch next before we check out some of the old Victorian homes in the area. The grocery stores ,and other stores do not open until 12 on Sunday .
REMEMBER- that you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them.

August 28 Friday 2009 Halifax
Sunny again today. Bill goes and get his root canal finished. Then he goes to pick up his tire rim. But it gets lost in a shuffle and is still in Toronto. We are planning to leave Saturday for Annapolis Royal. We decide to leave any way as we are coming back after the Labour day weekend and can pick it up then . Hopefully we do not get a flat in the meantime. We are busy getting ready to move on. Fall is definitely coming it is going to be down to 6 (43) degrees tomorrow morning and we might get rain as Dan not quite a hurricane is on it's way..
REMEMBER – Life is a measure to be filled not a cup to be drained.

August 27 Thursday 2009 Halifax
The computer Gods are in a snit and would not let me post pictures so will try again today. Sunny with not a cloud in sight. We decide to go to Lunenburg 51 miles (82k) away. We go through Mahome Bay first where we are greeted with 3 churches which have stood on the bay since the mid-1800's are renowned landmark s. Cape Cod ,Georgian and Victorian -style houses also still stand. The streets are very narrow I would hate to bring a RV through here. Old town Lunenburg is a UNESCO world heritage site. It is the home of the Bluenoise which we get on. It is the undefeated champion of the North Atlantic Fishing fleet and the winner of 4 international schooner races from 1921-1931 ( her likeness is on the Canadian dime). We go to the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic. It has 3 floors and also includes 2 historic ships on the dock. We get on the T.E. Connor and the Cape Sable. The building contain a aquarium, a boat room, displays of ships models and sea artifacts, exhibits depicting the story of rumrunning and the history of the Bluenose. We get some guided tours. We break for lunch across the street. I have a delicious plate of mussels. The museum is very well done . We spend over 3 hours here again a lot to see and read.
REMEMBER-Don't view your home as too small ,think of it as easy to clean.

August 26 Wednesday 2009 Halifax
We wake up to light rain and fog. Bill tooth is still hurting so he returns to the dentist they think he might have an infection so they prescribe antibiotics. After lunch we decide to go to Peggy's cove. The fog just added to the mystery. Bill bought an ice cream cone and a seagull flew and knocked it out of his hand. He returned to buy another and sure enough there was signs warning you about the seagull problem. Too funny. Everywhere one looked was a Kodak moment. We stop at the flight 111 memorial on the way out. The sun was starting to come out just as we were leaving. Bill played with the satalite dish and finally got it working.
REMEMBER- Take time to laugh, it is the music of the soul.
