October 30 Friday 2009 St David Arizona
Today we are moving by 6:30 am Yes AM that early as we plan on hiking the Chiricahua National park called the land of the standing rocks by the Chiricahua Apaches. It takes Paul 1.5 hours to get to the visitors center. They run a van from here at 8:30 to the top of the Mountain and you hike down 4.6 mi. Yes Bill goes too and does very well. The drive up to Echo Canyon 6780 ft(2066m). We walk on well marked trails, mostly downhill, winding through oak, cypress and pine forest. We pass many beautiful rock pinnacles. We packed a picnic lunch. We passed wild turkeys, guail, and deer. It was a beautiful sunny day but cold in the morning even small patches of snow. On our return both Bill and I crash and have a nap. Edith has us all for dinner as it is Jackie's birthday

Our friends Paul and Edith are going to Fort Huachuca and invite us . We tell them that they will not let Canadians in. Paul phones someone and he says sure they can go in. So off we go . We get there and they do not let us in Paul gives the phone number of the person he talked to and he was not going to be back until after lunch. Too long to wait. So Plane B. We go to Tombstone and walk the town. We have been there before but it is a fun place to go again. We return to the RV park and Larry,Jackie and Barbie have arrived so we have a happy hour and gab session.

October 26 Monday 2009 Whitewater Canyon cat walk
Today we drive again in sunshine on hwy 180 to Whitewater Canyon. 130 miles round trip. $3 in an envelop gets us into the cat walk a central point in the mining saga. The mine worked from 1889-1942. An 18”pipe was built in 1897 to replace of the 4' pipe. This pipe ran a new electric generator. Brace holes were drilled into the solid rock wall sometimes 20 feet above the canyon floor,to support the water line. At the end of the cat walk in a suspension bridge. We both cross it. Another awesome day. Scenery was great we saw deers, squirrels and many birds.
REMEMBER-Waste your money and you're only out of money but waste your time and you've lost a part of your life .

October 25 Sunday 2009 Silver City
We decide to tour historic Silver City and the Art Galleries. Our first stop H.B. Ailman house built in 1881 now a museum. We even get into the cupola the top portion of the old mansion. We walk down to the Big Ditch once the main street of town until a series of devastating floods between 1890 and1910 washed away the original Main street and all the handsome brick buildings. We have lunch at Diane's recommended. We are disappointed as most of the many art galleries are closed on Sundays. We do get into some. I have a good time in an antique store. I find 3 green glass fishnet balls for $7 .
REMEMBER- A kiss without a hug is like a flower without the fragrance.
Santa Rita Chino copper mines is almost 1,500 feet deep and 1-1/2 miles across.

October 24 Saturday 2009 Gila Cliff dwellings.
A fun day in beautiful sunshine. We take the long slow drive to the ruins hwy 15. We travel in the footsteps of the pre-historic Mimbus Indians. A narrow winding narrow road with many sharp “U” turns but beautiful scenery. We drive past Pinos Altos (tall pines) . It was founded in 1859. Then onto the Mountain spritits National scenic byway. We get to the visitors center and were told we could hike in time to have a guided tour of the ruins. Gila pronounced (Hee-la) a 1 mile loop trail. The ruins were awesome. At 1.30 another guided tour of Mogollon dwellings some 700 years ago. We take hwy 35 back passing Santa Reta/Chimo open pit copper mines. We pass deer and wild turkeys on the way I also see a tarantula (lg spider) and 2 lizards I haven't seen before.
REMEMBER-words that soak into your ears are whispered not yelled.
We move on to another dwelling a 2 room Mogollon dwelling occupied some 700 years ago
