June 30 Tuesday 2009 Caraquet New Brunswick
Wake up to pouring rain. It settles down somewhat after lunch and we drive 110 mi round trip to the northern tip, the lands end of Miscou Island. Here is a 1856 manned wooden lighthouse one of the oldest in Canada. We really appreciate the fisherman as we watch 2 small boats bobbing up and down in the waves. The rain hold on while I walk a board walk over a peat bog estuary. I get to see pitcher plants, chocolate lily, lavender tea and cotton grass. We see many homes with stacks of traps and fishing gear in their back yard. The peat bog in Ile Lamque is Canada's major source . Most is shipped to USA as soil conditioner, stable and poultry litter ,insulation and packing material.
