October 6 Wednesday 2010 Puerto Quetzal Guadtemala- day 12

We meet at 7am for breakfast as we have a tour to Antigua, a 90 minute drive from the pier. Antigua has 3 volcanoes surrounding it. One just sprouted steam 3 months ago. We get dropped off in front of a good jade museum. We see colourful houses located on cobblestone streets. On the east side of the plaza is the shell of the 2nd Cathedral of Santeago. A maze of naves, chapels, domes arches and belfries let by dozens of strategically placed windows damaged done by several earthquakes. Next to the church is the monastery. Churrigueresque facades of arches, winding stems of stucco flowers and vines lace patterns cover almost every square inch of the central section. The walls and niches were decorated with paintings and statues of saints. Plaza Mayor is the physical center of the city. In the middle of the plaza and still working is La Fuente de las Sirenas (mermaid fountain). UNISCO has declaired the town a world heritage sight. 25,000 inhabitants live here .It was established 1543. We walk to the market and I buy the twins a Guatemalan jacket. A 6 and half hour tout $44 ea. We return in time to catch our bus too busy shopping we didn't have lunch but we had a big breakfast. The ship leaves at 5pm. Just in time to get ready for dinner. Our after dinner show was Juan Pablo Subirana. He is an Latin Americian piano player, classical, contemporary and popular music with an exciting mix of music, varity and humor.

REMEMBER- To take the time to play it's the freshness of childhood.
