Sept29 Saturday-Mission Beach-Townsville- After a quick morning briefing we hit the road to Townville a 4 hr drive and 141 miles. We see lots of caution Cassowary signs but do not see any. They are rare and very shy and endangered. a flightless bird found only in the Queensland rainforest and New Guinn It is in the same group as ostriches and emus. Their 3 toed feet have sharp claws . The middle claw is 5in. so back away quickly if encountered. They arrack only if provoked or cornered. Check out www.wikepedia.org and type in cassowary. Our drive today allows us ample time to watch cascading waterfalls plunge over rugged basalt cliffs .Beautiful Murry falls were only 20km of the main hwy. We continue out to Cardwell. Here we walk out a peer. We see several sea turtles and a sea cow or dugong, a large fish some what like a manqué. We watch people fishing and catching them of the peer. We get to take a quick look inside the rainforest and reef center as it is really closed as not enough staff. We have a quick lunch in our rig under a large tree full of chattering small parrots. They flittered so quickly I couldn’t get pictures. We fuel for the first time-$68.21—1.32 a liter. We drive to Jourama falls but not much water cascading. We decide not to go to Wallaman falls the tallest in Au. It was 50km on a windy narrow dirt road. Only 3 vans went. They said the falls were beautiful but the road very dusty. We stop for a mango smoothy yum. We pass oodles of termite mounds .We arrive at The Lakes Holiday Park. We all have en suite. That means we all have our own private building with a toilet and shower. The park has a lake and we watched remote controlled sailboats race .Neat. After a briefing for tomorrow we go to Red Rooster for dinner. We get a whole stuffed chicken with fries and garlic bread for $15.00. We couldn’t eat it all so they packed it up in a cloth bag with a tablecloth inside for a picnic
