Oct 29 Sunday – We change the clock back 1 hr. because of daylight savings. Today we have a 3-1/2 hr. bus tour onto the town of Chihuahua, the capital city for the state of the same name. It is the cradle of the revolution. It is the home of Anthony Quinn and Poncho Villa. We visit his house, now a museum with the original furniture and many artifacts including the car he was shot in. We also visit the state capital building with its many Muriel’s depicting the history of the state. An interesting feature is that the whole building is netted to protect from bird droppings. The Cathedral in the plaza of nations is next. Its construction took over 100 yrs. beginning in 1725. A Baroque style, with 2 slender 3body twin towers. We peek briefly inside as a mass is in progress. Stunning! Next is the Quinta Gameros mansion. He brought products from all over the world to finish in 2 yrs. A construction in Art Nouveau style. Very ornate! Beautiful stained glass windows, intrically carved wooden staircase, right and left entrance and lavish interior decoration and furniture. Sadly no photos were allowed. Throughout the town were large statues of the Chihuahua dogs painted in many ways. The dogs started out in China but made their way here and now there are 18 breeding farms. We also see the ancient aqua ducts 1706- not in use today. We have lunch at Rincon Mexicano (included). After we are taken back to have a rest until 6:30 when we are taken for dinner also included. We are entertained with Mexician dancing. We get a great steak with complementarily margaritas for dinner. We are back by 9pm.
