Tuesday June 6- 43 sunny at 8:30am we leave for Edmonton. We see a male elk swimming across a lake. We stop at Edson for fuel. We take on 220 liters $ 211.00 at 96 cents a liter. We also had the tire put back under the RV and get the groceries I forgot at Save on. Arrive at Spruce Grove at 230pm 63 and sunny. Bernice and Gerry have dinner for us.
Wednesday June 8 sunny Today we go into Edmonton first to the AAA for city map and campground book I forgot, then off to Fort Edmonton 6.75 ea. A steam train took us to the entrance to the fort. A Huge high wall greeted us (so high to keep the animals out). We see 4 eras 1846 Hudson Bay and fur trading fort and native encampment, 1885 settlement, 1905 a developing capital to 1920 the business community. All guides were dressed in period costumes and gave demonstrations. Neat. We stroll along boardwalk and visit homesteaders houses and stores churches, stables, blacksmith shop etc. The rebuilt Selkirk hotel with its modern amenities such as bathrooms in every bedroom, and air conditioning. Next is the Provincial Museum 7.25 each .We see beautiful displays of stuffed animals, birds and plants depicting the area. A one billion year odyssey from dinosaurs to rare minerals and gems were interesting too. My favorite was the live bugs. The Syncrude Gallery of aboriginal culture was very good too. Tonight I cooked a salmon for dinner for the 6 of us.
