Craigdarroch castle and Nanamio

WE take the car up to Craigdarroch castle. Good thing we didn't try to walk up on the bus tour as it was a very long steep hill to get there. The castle is 4 stories up no elevator but as you go in stages it was doable. The castle

was completed in 1890 a home for coal baron Robert Dunsmuir and family. It was also used as a military hospital, Victoria college, Victoria school board and a music conservatory. We were there 2 hours. We left for Nanaimo got a room at the Travel Lodge. Phoned Mike and Nola and met at the White spot for dinner. Had a good visit

Another good day . Weather sunny sunny sunny. First we go on the hop-on-hop-off doubledecker bus. We go past China town, fisherman'

s wharf,Beacon Hill park,Christ Church, Craigdarroch castle, Oak Bay, and Beach drive before heading back to the Empress. After lunch we went on the pickel boats again only this time we went up the gorge. I liked this tour better than the Harbour tour. We stopped for ice cream then took the Hop-on-hop off bus again. We went back to the Steamship for dinner again as we loved their seafood chowder.

September 20 Tuesday 2016

We have a great day in Victoria. First we get a room in the Day's Inn in the harbour close walking to most things. We walk across the street to the Robert Bateman gallery. Then walk to the Royal BC museum featuring Mammoth and the ice age. Next we go down to the water and get on those cute little boats that tours the harbour. The Steamship grill and bar for dinner. A lot of walking . 

Sidney

September 19 Monday 2016

 Sidney BC

We get the 10am ferry for Sidney and get a motel room overlooking the ocean-Sidney waterfront Inn. We go and visit with Doug and Joanne and rehash BYC stories. Rum Runners for lunch next, great food. Back to the motel we walk the street of Sidney. They have made one way streets. We go into Tanners book store, what a selection. We get a good view of Sidney Spit one of our kids favourite boating spots. Breakfast is included

home

Donna and I volunteered to water and care for the garden around our rental building. It took about 1 hour every night. I quite enjoyed it.  Irene was gone for 3 weeks. Donna did the plants at Irene's place. I had a bit of a garden too. I planted bulbs for next Spring. We are having a meet and greet at out place this Sunday weather permitting. Monday we might go to Sidney, Victoria then Nanaimo. Still doing painting every Wednesday

We did have fun with Carter and Madison this summer. We did Bear Creek park quite often. We also went to the Marine rescue center. Madison must have taken 50 pictures.

We leave around 9:30 and head for Penticton, then Kelowna, Vernon and Kamloops Hwy 5 to hwy 24 and 100 Mile where we stay the night. We pass beautiful country sides with a lot of lakes.

We go for a walk this time towards the cassino and the pier .I think Dough and Muriel share the same creek. As Mitch. Bill went to school with Doug. They too had a beautiful garden too. After finishing off a bottle of wine we decide to go for dinner. Muriel decides to go to the cassino beside us. Another very good meal. Weather perfect with a slight breeze.

August 24 Wednesday 2016

Arrived at Annette and Orv's around 10am They live on Vaseux lake down from Okanagan Falls. Annette took us to a couple of wineries-See Ya Later ranch and Tin Horn Creek. We sat around the lake drank wine and bull shitted. We had a great chicken dinner then drank more wine. Beautiful quite lake. We leave tomorrow don't know The direction we are going.

August 22 Monday 2016

We had quite a wind storm last night. Came up around 10pm. Found Mitch and Grace's place easy. They have a wonderful creek behind them. Really enjoy sitting on their patio and listening to the creek run. They took us to 2 wineries . We tried Hillside first but they had no patio sitting left so we went to Poplar Grove winery. What a view. I had their fish chowder Bill and Grace had pulled pork sandwich I had a taste and it was very good. Weather a lot cooler than yesterday.

well I got too many complaints about not continuing my blog so here is an up date.

August 21 Sunday

Penticton first to visit two couples. We stop first at Manning park and see they are giving a wild flower tour. Bill says we have time so we drive up the mountain ( 20 minutes) on part gravel road. Beautiful scenery. The tour is one hour much of the flowers are spent but we learn a few things then back down and on our way. Arrive in Penticton at 3pm. We stay at the Slumber Lodge right across from the lake. We take a little rest then walk the shore to the restaurants it is hot 90' We stop at Salty's great food then we walk back cooler now with a breeze.
