March 3 Sunday 2013
We take a tour bus to Long Beach LA to get a boat to Santa Catalina Island. The Island is 76 sq mi and 22 mi long and 8 mi at the widest point 1/2 at the isthmus. We get off at Avalon a quintessential breach town laid back with many shops and restaurants. Catalina was developed by the Wigley family yes the gum people . Marlyn Monroe, Natalie Wood, Errol Flyn and Zane Grey were a few famous people that made Catalina home.We hear the Deagon turbular bells in the 1925 chime tower chiming between 8am- 8 pm every quarter hr and hour. We head back 22 miles to the mainland (notwithstanding the 1958 hit song by the 4 preps 26 miles Santa Catalina . We are back home by 8pm . A long but good day on Santa Catalina the island of romance-blue water (calm) sunshine, and Greek Island scenery. Can't get much better.
