tour of San Antonio
We get the bus at 20 after 8. We go to hotel Menger a beautiful old hotel with 3 tiered balcony. Next we walk around sunken garden also known as the Japanese tea garden ( a smaller version of our Buchard in Victoria. The entrance was made of cement. Our favorite the River walk boat tour. This is what we came to San Antonio for and it didn't disappoint. The river is mostly 3 feet deep and is surrounded by four levels of shops, hotels and restaurants. Beautiful landscape surrounds us with some 300 year old cypress trees. Very well done. The San Antonio river runs right through the center of town. Built in 1941. Next we tour the Alamos. The cradle of Texas Liberty. Established in 1718 as mission San Antonio de Vatero. The first of five missions built along the San Antonio river. Where Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie Colonel Travis and 186 valiant men sacrificed their lives fighting for Texas independence. We go inside the Buckhorn saloon and museum. Very impressive. Built in 1881 has the largest collection of animal horns, wildlife exhibits with African,Asian, Alaskan and North American themes. We stayed and had lunch and a beer . After walking around town we mwt back at the bus at 2pm for the rest of the tour. They take us to the missions of San Antonio. First Mission San Jose established in 1720. We see the famous rose window. Next we go to Mission Conception 1731. We couldn't go in as they were restoring parts of it. Back to town to walk the market place. El Mercado. We walk around then stop for a 2 for 1 margarita happy hour. We are pooped . But it was a good day.
REMEMBER-take a deep breath it calms the mind.
