Sunnyland

January 18 Friday 2013
We go to Sunnylands the former home of Walter and Leonore Annenberg. Here was a retreat for US presidents, government officials, and world leaders plus many famous movie stars.. It is built on 200 acres in Rancho Mirage in 1960, complete with an 18-hole golf course. In 1983 Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip stopped by. We took the Imperial Splendor: Chinese Cloisonne tour.$35 each. We get on a small tram to the house (hidden from public view) and tour the grounds on the way. We were not allowed to take pictures inside the house. We are faced with huge floor to ceiling windows, wonderful art and tasteful decorations.
We see painting of Picaso, Van Gough, Andrew Wyeth and Monet . We see silver-gilt, chinese porcelain artifacts.Meissen porcelain, Steuben etched glass and Flora Dancia flowers. We go into the memory room filled with walls lined with photographs of famous and powerful people. Correspondences of Christms cards from Queen Elizabith were very interesting. Sculpture from 19 and 20 century artist including Yaacor Agasn, Henry Bertoia, Jean Ays,Alberto Giacomette and Aiguste Roden. A 90 minute tour a must see. We get back in time for the free 1 hour garden tour.Fisherman's market for lunch That night we go to the desert museum and Ruby's for dinner then the street fair. A very busy day.
REMEMBER-It is in pardoning that we are pardoned.
