August 18 Tuesday 2009 doing the Cabot trail
We leave early as we have a long drive (300k 186 mi), a circle drive of the eastern and western shores of Cape Breton Island. We go counter clockwise snaking around and up and down sea swept headlands clinging to the edge of cliffs that drop 335metres (1,100 ft) to the sea ..It's sunny when we start then light fog rolls in to add to the mystery then back to sunshine. We even drive all the way to Meat cove ( last 8k dirt road) The roads were not that good . A little scarry- 121Mi took one and half hours extra. We had hoped to see whales . We continued through Highlands National Park through boreal forest. They even have world class golfing and lots of areas for hiking. Both sides have beautiful beaches. I found it interesting coming to villages a lot of the signs are in Gaelic as well as English. We stop for lunch overlooking the ocean , still no whales. Joe's scarecrow village was interesting too. It was a good day to travel as the temp. got up to 83(28).Made good use of air conditioner. Each turn of the road brought another scene to dazzle the senses.
REMEMBER-Letting the cat out of the bag is a lot easier then putting it back in.
