June 3,2009 Thursday Daisy May RV park Alberta
We use Fort MacLeod as our hub from which we spoke for day trips. First we go to Head -Smashing-in , a historic site ( a buffalo jump). $4 each with coupons. The Blackfoot Indians dressed in buffalo skins drove thundering herds over cliffs. We arrived early so walked the lower trail below the jump. Looking up we see a birds nest with 2 large white baby birds. We also see a marmot basking in the sun on a rock not 5' in front of us. He even gets up and poses for a picture. We pass an area where one can rent a tee pee to sleep overnight in, great fun for kids. 10Am the doors are opened. There are 5 floors to view. The interpretive center is very well laid out from top floor .We go to the top first and walk outside to walk the ridge of the jump. Again we see more marmots basking in the sun on rocks. Next we go in and see a good movie reenacting the jump. All the displays are very interesting as they explain the archeology digs. We spend 3 hours here. Next we drive to Cardston to see over 250 horse drawn carriages. Remington Carriage museum the largest collection in North America. We take a free tour guide walk ( 45 min,) The museum has both a working stable and a restoration shop. We spend another 3 hours here. I forgot to tell you if you stop at the Alberta visitors center you can get 2 for 1 tickets for these exhibits. It was good at the Frank slide too. We return back to the RV park and Sherri phones to Skype. The twins were not too interested and squirmed too much. I can't blame them it was 86(30) in her condo. They get another offer on their condo. Ethan e-mails to say they are off to Mexico then San Diego.
