June 23 Tuesday 2009 Quebec City
Again we tag along with our new friends Roy and Billie to Old town where we take a boat ride on the Louis Jolliet, and get a sailors view of Palace Royal and Chateau Frontenac , Plains of Abraham and much more. We proceed towards Montmorency Falls, Island of Oreleans and the Coup-de -Beaure and back. It was an unique perspective o f the Old capital that is now a UNESCO world heritage gem. A gentleman in period costume did a running commentary of what we were seeing. The weather was a little windy but otherwise perfect. Next we stop at the Market where we buy local cheese. Delicious! We also buy fresh shrimp cocktail for lunch. We drive to Island of Orleans discovered by Jacque Cartier in 1535. We first stop at the visitors center and get an audio-guide to follow the road that rings the Island. We pass many old farmlands, orchards, vineyards and strawberry stands. Potatoes are also grown . Here is where the famous duck terrine (a pate) & confit masenades, (all home made )are found. The Island is also famous for their cheese which we already bought at the market. Homes have Norman-style roofs many painted bright red. The famous painter Horatio Walker lived here. (he painted many rural Island scenes). We pass the picturesque village of Saint Petronille . We get a feel of traditional Quebec routine of peaceful rural life. A long but satisfying day . We return and are invited for dinner and Happy hour. What a great way to end a day. We exchange plans and hope to see them along the way as they are leaving for the Gaspe tomorrow.
REMEMBER-Good friends are like stars, you don't always see them but you know they are there
