June 15 Monday. Niagara Falls 2009
We leave at 9:15am for the restored Old Fort Erie. $5 each with pass. We are in time for the free tour with people dressed in authentic period costumes who explain the history of the war of 1812 and the national historic site. We are surprised when we get to the officer's kitchen and get fresh baked cookies. We leave the fort after lunch and travel along the river road to Niagara Falls. We see lavish waterfront mansions both old and new , all very visible ,not hidden behind bushes,or trees as they want a view of the river.
White water Walk is next. We park ($10)and take the people mover. We take an elevator to the river level. A board walk follows the rapids of the lower Niagara river. A very scenic 1000ft (305m) pathway along the edge of the river provides a close up view of the rapids as they rush from the falls at 25 mph. We fuel up and grocery shop before returning to the KOA RV park, as we get ready to leave tomorrow for the Thousand Islands just past Kingston. It was beautiful and sunny .
