September 7 Monday 2009 Halifax
Our last trip into town. Today we head to Pier 21, Canadians answer to New York's Ellis Island. Here we follow the footsteps of the 1.5 million immigrants and Canadian military service personal who passed through Pier 21 between 1928-1971. We get there in time to take a guided tour. There was a lady there who actually came over on the ship (model) we were standing in front of. We watch a very good multimedia presentation “Ocean of Hope”. Then we go through a simulated CN rail car and listen to stories of different travels. . Very well done. A Holland Americian cruise ship is tied up to the pier. (Masdam). The big market is opened, I splurge and buy Carter and Madison cute Nova Scotia tartan outfits. We have time to walk the board walk along the waterfront again. We have a good seafood salad at Murphy's overlooking the waterfront. Time to head back. We stop at a mall first but everything is closed. Labour day . Good for them.
