Things are looking up now that my family is back home. Bill is in a better mood and is looking forward to his appointment with the sergen January 30. Hopefully she will say he can put more weight on his foot. We can't visit Bill right now as people on his ward have developed the Norwalk virus. Bill is clear so far. Hopefully this dosen't interfer with his visit. I should find out about my computer latter Monday. Keep your fingers crossed I don't have to buy a new one.

Things are going from bad to worst. I go to turn the water on to make coffee-dead. FROZEN Yes even though I put heat coils around the hose it froze. The guys in the park tried to help but I just have to wait until it thaws and the temperature tonight is forecast for -13. I guess I will have to get water from the park washroom or laundry room. Then Tuesday my computer refuses to open-just a black screen. I take it to London Drugs and they will look at it Friday. Then I found out the park has a computer I can use in the office . That is where I am now. I go and see Bill this morning and he is pondering how he will be able to drive a vehicle as his drop foot prevents his toes going up. He has an appointment with the doctor Mon January 30 .To add insult to injury my twins and family are in Palm Springs visiting Gerry's mom and dad. So I sit here wrapped in a blanket watching TV feeling sorry for myself.

arrgghhh-(green with envy) I suppose I should count myself lucky as we dodged the proverbial SNOW .It has been amazingly warm and snowless. Soooo today it started ICK.yes it snowed during the night. I had a little excitement around 10pm an alarm goes off. I turn the furnace off and it stops. I put on my jacket and go outside, is anyone up?? Yes just across from me a man is taking his dog out. He comes over and checks things but cannot find why the alarm went off. Hope it doesn't happen again. The snow clears by noon I go visit Bill he is in a better mood today . Today is day 69 for him in the hospital. I am having trouble opening my hot mail on my computer and discover the park has a computer in the office we can use -hooray.

I guess it is about time I put everyone up to date. Bill has had a mishap he is the only one on his floor who contacted CDAD (a diarrhea problem). He still can only put 15% of his weight on the broken leg . Jan 16 they will try 50%. I have been busy with the twins-bowling, art classes and gymnastics. They are on the way to Palm Springs without us boo hoo. Gerry's mom has a park model in Palm Desert. They will be there for 10 days. I joined a group at the Burnaby seniors center to play Mexician train a very friendly group.
REMEMBER-Life isn't fair but it is still just the way we like it.

Well it is the last day of the year. Hopefully thing improve in the New Year. I went to lunch with my brother at the White Spot. We had a good visit and caught up on our family news. I bought 2 hamburgers to take up to Bill and we had supper together. STill no word when Bill can put more weight on his injured leg, still only 15%.

I bring my lunch as usual Bill is still is good spirit an orthopedic comes and explains different splints for his drop foot . They will work even in his velcro runners. He practices walking with crunches. Sherri goes Friday so I get a day off while looking after the twins. I go to Sherri's for the night after visiting Bill. Really looking forward to seeing the look on the twins faces Christmas morning

Monday we went to the Royal Columbian to get his leg checked out . He is healing very well but he has a lot of nerve damage in his foot . Tuesday we get an EEG to check the extent on the nerve damage. He is cazzered on both feet( yes electrical shots) and yes there is a lot of damage . Dr Bozek said only time will heal. Latter the therapist brought in crushes to try. He is to put only 25% of weight on his foot.
REMEMBER-Don't underestimate the power of a smile.

I have a fun weekend visit Bill early Saturday then drive to Sherri's to watch their last skating lesson for the season. In the afternoon we build and decorate gingerbread princess castles for Madison and a choo- choo for Carter. I stay overnight and go to see Bill early Sunday. He even lets me wheelchair him outside. We have a coffee at Tim Horton’s in the hospital. His sugar counts are still high I did talk to his doctor and they are working on adjusting his shots.

Bill's leg is coming along slow but sure . Our biggest concern now is his very high sugar counts and his energy level.

They are trying a different insulin on him. I made a dental appointment for me for tomorrow. It is the same clinic we had before we headed South only in new quarters. I got a big basket of fruit,cookies,candy and pop for the staff in the park for taking care of me- putting a heat tape around my water hose so it doesn't freeze, connecting my sewer hose and hooking up my cable. Bill is happy some people from BYC have come to visit him. I decorated the rig for Christmas eve a lighted tree outside.

I scrape car windows again this morning. Bill is down in the dumps again as he just got word that John Chambers one of Bill best friends isn't doing so good and will be moving to another assisting living home. ( dementia or Alzheimer ). Bob Robertson also comes to visit. I do the ultrasound then Sherri comes with the twins. All to much for Bill as he is too tired to do his exercises.

December 1 Thursday 2011 Burnaby rv park

For the first time in a long time I had to scrape frost off my windows. Bill was down in the dumps when I arrived. I gave him a haircut and he had a shower. That perked him up. After doing the ultrasound we did a lot on the forms for our cancellation insurance and travel insurance. After lunch I set up the computer and Bill enjoyed all the well wishers comments. ( Thanks every one) I stopped at home depoe for heat tape to put on our water hose as it is starting to freeze at night. Palm Springs its not.

Tuesday I went to see the twins party for the month of November. They did a skit. Carter was not into it at all looked pretty sad. I took pictures but left my cable for the camera to the computer at Sherri's so can not post .The boot didn't work out for Bill. . He now has an elastic stocking. I got a copy of his ambulance bill $1008.67 a 5 minute ride to the hospital . Thank goodness for travel insurance. I bought a stick today for my wifi from telus. So will be on line when I want.

I am busy settling in the RV. Still can't find the sewer hose so I think I will buy another one. Bill is doing much better now that he has been moved into another bigger room. They took him back to the Royal Columbian hospital where they operated. He met the doctor who operated ( a good looking female). They took the staples out and fitted him with a boot and in the process they lost his shoe. Sherri and the twins came to visit then they came back to the rv where Gerry came over and set up my cable. We went swimming after.

Finally some good news to report. Bill had his jaw and throat checked and he does not have throat cancer. He just had a very bad infection. Our 5th wheel is in the burnaby rv park thanks to Hudson and Dina. Now for setting it up. All you women out there pay attention to how to set up and where thing are as I never paid attention so didn't know where all the hook up where etc. We still can not find the sewer hose????I go every day to see Bill and give him an ultra sound treatment on his break. ( a randomized clinical trail research study). I am getting more comfortable driving the car. Bill is expected to be in the hospital for another 3 weeks. He has to be able to do stairs.

I hate that my blog turned into a health blog. Today I cancel all reservations in Indio and Desert Pools. They will not refund our money for the 3 months but we get a year to use it up so hopefully next year. As of tonight we are not any wiser about the jaw or the leg. I will go tomorrow in the day time maybe someone can tell me something then. As you will see in the picture he is looking better and feeling better. WE still have not tracked his glasses and the night splint (lost in transfer) . Dr Chiu doesn't believe in the splints so he is not wearing them

I will not be posting every day from now on as things are becoming boring. I picked up a rental car today-Chevy Impala weather turning miserable. I booked a spot at the Burnaby rv Park. Bill got transferred out of his private room and now has no phone. Our little episode goes to show one do not wait to do your traveling. We have been lucky and have done a lot and hopefully we can do more.

I take a big breath and get into the car to drive to visit Bill by myself. Remember I haven't driven over a bridge since we go the truck with dulies. Sherri's car is much smaller and I drive with ease with some pillows under me. Now where are the windshield wipers? Found them. Luckily it is Saturday so not too much traffic. Bill looks much better and is even eating solid food. I get slowed down with A traffic accident on the way back. Even all the construction on the freeway wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be .

November 11 Friday Remembrance day 2011 Surrey BC

10am Gerry ,Carter and Madison take me to see Bill on their way to see their great grandpa for remembrance day. 1:15 they are back to take me back to Sherri's when a nurse comes in and says you are going to the operating room. HURRAY They let us follow them to the room. I phone at 7pm and he is not in his room yet. Sherri Gerry Carter and Madison are going to Gerry's sisters wedding. They are staying for 2 nights in a hotel in downtown Vancouver so I have the house to myself. They also leave me a car. I phone again at 9pm. He still is not down but the nurse said he is doing fine it is just that his sugar counts are too high and they want to monitor him there yet. She also said he had a spinal so he didn't feel a thing. Will phone again at 11pm he is back in his room. Thank God

November 10 Thursday 2011 Surrey BC

Sherri takes me around South Vancouver looking at RV parks but nothing compares to the Burnaby Cariboo park. The others are out in the toolies. We drop the kids at pre-school. I phone the hospital a few times nothing scheduled. Sherri drives me there around 4pm. He is looking somewhat better. He has a private room. They say he has a fracture in the tibia (larger bone in lower leg) A surgical repair with an intramuscular ( IM) nail ( metal rod down the middle of the bone. Hopefully the surgery will be Friday. They want him to participate in an ultra sound treatment for tibial fractures 20 minutes a day. You don't know if you are getting a placebo. I think he will do it as he will have a lot time on his hands. We do not leave him until after 10pm. We can do that with a private room

Continued -The ambulance to take us to our private jet air ambulance came right on time. It only took 3hrs and 40 minutes to fly from Scottsdale to Vancouver. 2 nurses accompanied us. What a beautiful flight a clear sunny day. We got a great view of the Grand Canyon. Bill was snug in the Royal Columbian in New Westminster hospital by 6:30. Dr Gruneau came to see him and hoped to operate tomorrow morning ( Thursday) so no food after midnight. Sherri, Gerry,Carter and Madison came to the hospital. Madison was sleeping but Carter was awake was he ever surprised to see grandpa in bed with a huge bandage on his leg. I settle in at Sherri's.

What a day . We are told we will be leaving on a medical jet for Vancouver to get his leg operated on as soon as they can get a bed. I get the trailer ready to shut down . Edith comes over and helps me clean out the fridge and other perishables. I pull in the slide and pack for home -some medicine, some clothes computer .We are allowed 2 carry on's. I tell the rv park someone will come to take our 5^th wheel and truck back to Vancouver . Our travel insurance should take care of this although I haven't heard any thing yet. I phone Dr Farrell to say we will not make our appointment Thursday as Bill broke his leg. His jaw pain has subsided and he does have the 2 splints. I also phone OATS and cancel our Route Maya trip in February. Edith takes me to the hospital to find out when we leave get a call not until tomorrow morning. I sleep in Bills room they have a bed chesterfield. They have very good wifi reseption.

We spend a very restless night. He crawls out of bed and collapses on the kitchen floor. That is it I have had it I call the ambulance they take him and me to Banner Gateway Medical center. They look after him royally. Give him morphine for his pain even the pain in his jaw has subsided. I finally leave via a cab around 5pm.

Bill is still hurting and spends most of the day in bed. He has a shower but gets sick at his stomach there goes the smoothies . I go for a walk again. Bill can't wait until 8am Monday for his next doctors appointment. He is even going to let me drive. Sure will be glad when all this is over. He get up to get a drink of water and falls down. After the rain,wind,and thunderstorm last night I couldn't watch the tv as it knocked off the satalite. Bill got up in a daze took his pills and insulin and went back to bed. I read for awhile then go for a walk. I find a market across the street from the park that is even cheaper than the 99c store. (fruit and veg only). Sherri calls while I was gone. I call her back and we skype with the twins. Bill get up to get the tv working then goes back to bed. Shannon emails to say quest are on board for 3 weeks and wishes Bill well.

WE are to meet Paul and Edith at the swap meet in Apache Junction. Bills pain comes on with a vengeance. He lays down in the back of the truck refusing me to take him home. We do a quick tour but find nothing with our name on it. Bill is ok to drive back to the park but goes right to bed after calling Dr Farrell for an appointment Monday (8am)I go to the office to get another week in the park and cancel our date with Peg and Gerry in Tucson. Weather is to change the next while 20 degrees cooler.

We drive into Scottsdale and Bill gets his new splints one for daytime and one for night. We go back again next Thursday. We stop at the 99c only store and lo and behold if they are not playing Xmas carols in the store. Paul and Edith come over so I can tell them about OATS, And our Intercoastal waterways trip. We take them out for dinner. We go to Talyor Rays right around the corner -good home type cooked meals.

October 31 Monday 2011 Happy Halloween Mesa Arizona

The clinic is only 27.9 miles from the park and we make it at the same time as yesterday. (45 min.) We are early but they start paper work. They poke and probe much to Bill's discuss ( it hurt)They finally take a cat-scan of his jaw. Dr Farrell explains the results. He has an infected swollen jaw caused by him grinding his teeth. They give him a needle to release the pressure and pain. Then they take a print of his teeth for a splint. They give him a splint for 7 days while his is getting made. We do not get back until 6:15 as we had to fill his prescription at Wal-Mart. ($40) $755- $250 for office visit.$202 for cat-scan, $303 for shots so far. We meet again Thursday 10:15am. Bill takes his pills and goes straight to bed.

We do a run to the doctors office to see how long it will take. It was very easy to find. Only 45 minutes but it is Sunday. There is a 99c only store very close to our rv park so we stop in to buy fresh strawberries. Bananas, yogart and milk for smoothies for Bill as he is still on liquids as he cannot open his jaw. It is very hot again today 90' Bill spends the rest of the day inside with the air conditioner on. His pain pill are not doing very well. I will be glad when Monday is over.

An update on Shannon and Ethan

They are still in Indonesia in Cenderwasih Bay which is in the northern coast of Papua island a bit East of Rojah Ampat. They are having the time of their life diving and photographing whale sharks. They hired Bagans, floating fishing platforms to dump fish for the sharks. Whale sharks are plankton eaters. The sharks are only interested in free food and ignore snorkelers and divers. They spent many magical hours with the magnificent creatures and were able photograph them in quite decent viz. Clear water , unusual fish behavior and cooperative mega-fauna. Cenderawasih may well be called the Galapagos of the Indonesian reefs. Here is a you tube web site to watch

Bill isn't fairing too well. His jaw still hurts. He has an appointment Monday with a specialist in Scottsdale Az near Phoenix .We plan heading South Saturday so find a rv park in Mesa to stay 1 week. Clark Sheila and I decide not to gallivant today and stay home getting ready to leave tomorrow. They are going to Verdi for 2 days then to Casa Grande Az. Hopefully we will get back together there. Bill fuels up and hooks up. Shelia cooks a great pork roast. Bill is strictly on fluids he has lost 10 lbs .

October 27 Thursday 2011 Grand Canyon

Bill has a very very very terrible day. First he had a leak in one of his truck tires and was told he needed new tires all around . 1,300 latter he continues to the dentist again. Here he gets more x-rays and discovered it is not his teeth but his jaw. $101 . They recommend a jaw or TMJ specialest in Scotsdale. He will phone them tomorrow. Clark, Shelia and I drive to the Grand Canyon . 1 hour away. We stop first at the ImaX theather and watch a great show. Here is a visitors center too so we get some advice. We drive all the way to the end of Desert View drive . Here is the Watchtower where we walk up 85 steps for a 365 view. Awesome. Next is Navajo Point where we again have indescribable views. Tusayan Museum and ruins next where we listen to a ranger give a talk about the people who lived in the Canyon years ago. Next we go to Yavapai Point for more views of the fabulous canyon. Angel bright next. Here we see riders coming up from the Angel bright trail. We walk a very small portion of it. We decide to go for dinner so we can get some sunset shots after. Angel bright had great prices apparently the best on the rim. Yes it was very good ,highly recommended. We see a herd of elk on our way out.

We go to the office and book one more day here as there is lots to see in the area. Clark, Sheila and I drive to Flagstaff-30 miles. As weather is to rain off and on . We decide to do museums. Bill is having trouble with his teeth and has an appointment for 11am. We go to Lowell university to see some of the 7 telescopes on site. $9 We get a good guide. We peer through a telescope that Percival used to sketch mars. Alyde Tombough used to discover Pluto. Our guide recommends a restaurant for lunch before we go to the museum of Northern Arizona, a huge building with 9 galleries including archaeology, geology, ethnology. All very well displayed and informative. We return to the rv . Bill is no better off as they couldn't find anything even with x-rays. $115 latter he returns. It is supposed to freeze here tonight so will turn the water off. Sheila beats me in a mean game of scrabble. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny so we will go to the South rim of the Grans Canyon.

We are on our way by 9am. Clark fuels up at Jacobs corner. Temperatures 46

we take hwy 89> 40 and exit 163 to Canyon gateway rv park in Williams Arizona. full hook up with WIFI $65 for 3 nights including taxes. We drive in and out of rain squalls , sunshine, even lightening. We drive 244 miles It is 65' when we arrive although somewhere it reached 75' . Sheila makes a delicious casserole for dinner. The satalite set up easy.

October 24 Monday 2011 North rim Grand Canyon

We leave St George at 8:30 temp 45' and sunny. We drive 139mi . We take hwy 9>59>389>89A. We arrive in the North rim of the Grand Canyon at 11:30 temp 55'. We have to set our clocks back 1 hour on Arizona time. We find a real nice pull through campground $12 no hookups no power no sewer. Clark unhooks and we go to the visitors center and lodge both closed but the gift stores are opened. We walk around to the lodge what a view of the canyon. It is so immence the eye can hardly comprehend it's vastness. We head down Bright angel Point trail. A paved trail down a narrow pathway to the point where the views are a labyrenth of ragged multicoloured passageways. Breathtaking panoramic views. I had cooked a beef dinner in the slow cooker the night before and only had to heat it up. We sleep well as no noise only the whisper of wind from the canyon floor.

October 23 Sunday 2011 St George

We go to Wal-mart to top off on fresh veggies and supplies as we are moving to the North rim and the South rim of the Grand Canyon. We do laundry ,vacuum, do windows etc. Bill is looking forward to cooler temperatures as we were in the 80's again today. Bill and I go to the ice cream social with Karaoke. Was the manager Mike ever good. Nickole sings 2 songs another fellow sings too but he is not as good as the others. Bill is all hooked up ready to go just the satalite dish, power and water .

October 22 Saturday 2011 Snow Canyon

First we drop in the clubhouse for cinnamon buns and look over the craft show then we head to Snow Canyon off hwy 18. our first stop is pioneer names trail. ½ mile easy trail to names written in axle grease, dating back to 1881. our next stop is Lava flow caves. We pass 3 the caves the last one being the largest. Clark does climb down into it . I am too chicken. We drive back to Upper Galoot where they have picnic tables and we have lunch. We return and go North on hwy 18 to Ceder Breaks and back to Hwy 15 south to Silver reef a ghost town where we have an interesting talk of the area in an old Wells Fargo bank building. There is not much left of the town now. At one time in 1877 Silver reef was larger then St George and had over 100 businesses and 2,000 people. We return in time for happy hour. I skype with Sherri and the twins in the evening.

a nothing day today just relax and read and post the blog. Sheila cooks a roast for dinner. We go to good entertainment at the park. Nickel's Honky Tonk Merry-Go-Round. She sings music of the 50's to current hits. By donation . We really enjoyed her show.
